LA Fitness vs. 24 Hour Fitness

Many fitness enthusiasts make LA Fitness vs. 24 Hour Fitness comparisons because these are among the closest competitors in the business. Like many types of comparisons, we have to emphasize early on that your final choice will be largely influenced by your personal preferences, location, and budget, among other factors. The more important thing here is that you’re actually following through with your fitness plans, whether you choose to be an LA Fitness or a 24 Hour Fitness gym regular.

LA Fitness Overview

Keep in mind that the LA Fitness prices are considered upscale but that’s to be expected as the gyms have state-of-the-art equipment, as well as great customer service, modern facilities and amenities, and convenient locations. Plus, we like it that LA Fitness clients are usually friendly, courteous and respectful of your personal space; most of the clients are young professionals, businessmen, and college students, even a family or two.

LA Fitness offers two types of membership that makes it easy to choose. First, the Single Club Membership allows access to the local club you signed up in. Second, the Multi-Club Membership allows full access to several locations, a great choice if you enjoy a mobile lifestyle.

Both plans, nonetheless, have an initiation fee and monthly fees. New members have to pay for an upfront fee for the first and last months’ dues; the combination of fees make LA Fitness among the more expensive gyms in the United States.

With membership, however, comes privileges that make the fees well worth your while. These include complete access to the wide range of exercise equipment (e.g., treadmills, free weights and weight machines, and ellipticals) and to the fitness classes. Many members can also use the racquetball courts for free; terms and conditions apply for each type of membership.

Note: Go for the Signature Clubs membership since its members have more privileges including access to the more luxurious facilities; an extra charge applies.

Budget-conscious individuals can still avail of the LA Fitness membership through a variety of ways. You can, for example, ask for an AAA discount, add relatives to your membership plan, or negotiate for lower membership fees. You may also request a current member to give you a free 14-day VIP pass.

Members are issued a fob key, which should be upon entering an LA Fitness gym. Members are also advised to download the LA Fitness app to their smartphone, said app of which can be used as an alternative fob key. The app is also useful in accessing updated information about gym locations, classes and promos, as well as scheduling personal training sessions and booking fitness classes, among others.

LA Fitness gyms are well-equipped with the latest in state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and amenities. These include free weights, weight machines, cardio machines, heated lap pools, saunas and whirlpools, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and lockers, restrooms, and shower rooms.  Many locations also offer swimming schools, juice bars, and childcare services; extra charges usually apply.

Personal training sessions can be booked, too. Fitness classes are also available; examples include belly dancing, cardio jam, and kickboxing cardio, to name a few.

24 Hour Fitness Overview

Many of the 24 Hour Fitness gyms are open 24 hours a day so be sure to check with your local gym or the chain’s official website for more information. The chain has more than 400 gyms in 13 states nationwide so it’s relatively easy to find a 24 Hour Fitness gym near you.

Members can download the MY24 app, a useful tool that will keep users on top of things, so to speak, particularly where their fitness class schedules, personal fitness goals, and fitness challenge status are concerned. We think that it’s among the best fitness apps because of its ease of use and navigation, intuitive design, and useful features, not to mention that it can be linked to other fitness apps and wearables.

As for membership fees, 24 Hour Fitness makes it easy for budget-conscious individuals to enjoy a fit lifestyle, too. Members can pay on a month-to-month basis but they are advised to pay for an annual membership to save on costs. Individuals can also choose from several prepaid memberships; the choices start from 30 days to 12 months.

24 Hour Fitness offers free fitness classes for members; terms and conditions apply. The GX24 classes, for example, are free for full-time members; the classes include high-intensity cardio, martial arts, and conditioning classes, to name a few.  There are also studio classes, such as Pilates, barre, and cycle training.

The chain also offers personal training programs and group training programs (i.e., Training Club 24). Of course, members can choose to self-train but we suggest getting a professional trainer if you’re a beginner or you’re training for a special event (i.e., bodybuilding competition).

Between LA Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness, we have to say that LA Fitness is the better chain because of its more numerous and more convenient locations, its wide range of fitness equipment and classes, and its upscale facilities and amenities. But 24 Hour Fitness isn’t so bad either.

Again, it will boil down to your personal needs in a gym.
